Divination [Arcane]
Casting Time: 10 minutes
Range: Personal
Target: You
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute/Power point
Minimum Power Points: 9
XP Cost: 5/Power point; see text
You send your mind out of your body in order to receive advice and information
from ancient powers. The powers reply in a language you understand, but they
resent such contact and give only brief answers to your questions (all questions
are answered with "yes," "no," "maybe," "never," "irrelevant," or some other
one-word answer) unless you pay them a tribute of 5 XP per Power point expended.
If a tribute is paid, the powers will give more detailed answers (at least a
short phrase, and possibly more). The powers are not omniscient, and may not
know the answer to a question.
You must concentrate on maintaining the spell (a standard action) in order to
ask questions at the rate of one per round. A question is answered by the power
during the same round. You may ask one question for every 2 Power points expended.
Unasked questions are wasted if the duration expires.
Alternatively, you may use this spell to ask the powers for the truename of
a creature whose normal name you already know. You must have some personal effect
of the creature (a lock of hair, an object owned for at least six months, or
the like), and must pay the powers a tribute of 5 XP per Power point expended
(giving out true names is something the powers are usually unwilling to do)
plus the personal effect. The creature is entitled to a Will saving throw (negates)
and spell resistance, as if they were present.
Restriction: as an arcane spell, only arcane spellcasters can
learn and cast this spell.
