This spell protects the subject from one spell descriptor. The spell immediately removes any magical effect with that descriptor of equal or fewer Power points than the Power points expended by the caster, and grants a new saving throw with a +4 bonus against more powerful magical effects. This occurs even if the magical effect has a duration of instantaneous.
It also renders the target immune to magical effects with that descriptor of equal or fewer Power points for the duration of the spell, and confers a +4 bonus to saving throws against more powerful magical effects.
This spell can instead counter and dispel a creature or object's power to use supernatural or spell-like effects that have that spell descriptor for the duration of the spell, at the caster's option. The caster must make a dispel check, as for remove magic.
Restriction: Choose one type of spell descriptor (curse, death, fear, mind-affecting, possession). This spell only protects against that spell descriptor, as follows.
Curse: the minimum Power points cost increases to 7. It does not remove the curse from a cursed shield, weapon, or suit of armor, although the spell typically enables the creature afflicted with any such cursed item to remove and get rid of it.
Death: the minimum Power points cost increases to 7.
Fear: this spell protects the subject from all fear effects (shaken, frightened, panicked, cowering).
Mind-Affecting: the minimum Power points cost increases to 11. For an additional 4 Power points, it can be heightened to protect the subject against all devices and spells that detect or read emotions or thoughts, as well as information gathering by divination spells or effects.
Possession: this spell protects the subject from all possession effects.
Special: This spell cannot be enhanced using the General Spell metamagic feat.
Diminished: For 2 Power points less (minimum 1 Power point), the subject gains only the +4 bonus to saving throws.
