Mad Godric part one (modified version of AD&D adventure Mad Gyoji from Dungeon issue 33) |
| Brenna's adventurers travel quickly to Caermarthen in southwest Vestad, arriving after three weeks. They learn that Miles Bashere returned to Gokstad, his native village, over a month ago. The adventurers travel around the western edge of Lake Delyen to Gokstad, right on the border with Menarland, where they find Miles close to death in his family hall. Miles tells Eadric that he can see an evil spirit sitting on his chest, that the spirit killed the older members of his family one by one, and that it looks like Mad Godric, a killer who was exiled from Gokstad almost thirty years ago. Other villagers tell the adventurers that Mad Godric moved to the nearby island of Mawddath, where the old pagans temples have stood abandoned since an army sent by Empress Theodora II Palagos stormed the island two hundred years ago and killed all the pagan priests. They warn the adventurers that the only way to safely reach Mawddath is by the bridge, as Delen the lake-god sinks any boats that come too close to the island. They set out at dawn the next day through the bog, where they find a map to a hidden key and treasury room on the remains of a long-dead pagan after they promise his ghost they will warn the priests of Mawddath that the Vestadian army is coming. At the bridge to Mawddath, they are challenged by a horned troll who they kill in battle. The adventurers explore the southern half of the island, eventually finding the remains of the temple to Woten the sky-god, where they are attacked by three bears, a boar and a wolverine. One of the bears uses magic spells to make the other animals grow and to attack them with fire, but the adventurers kill them all in a close battle that almost claims Ulfgar's life. When the magic-using bear is killed, the body changes back to that of a man who matches the description of Mad Godric. Winter 1394 AUC | |

Mad Godric part two (modified version of AD&D adventure Mad Gyoji from Dungeon issue 33) |
| Brenna's adventurers search the temple complex, finding a number of books, alchemical substances, and magic devices. Some of the books describe how to create an evil spirit of vengeance that will kill your enemies, but ultimately at the cost of your own life. The adventurers search the remainder of the island, finding a number of smaller temples to other gods, including Tern the bear-god, Freg the corn-goddess, and a handsome statue of Delen the lake-god. During their search the adventurers find the hidden key, a magic pearl, and a swan-boat. Eventually, they find a temple to Loken the vengeance-god, and gather up the broken pottery shards on which Mad Godric wrote his death-curse. Marcus talks with the swan-boat in Lughwyd, which sails them to the small adjacent island with the hidden treasury without provoking the wrath of the lake-god. Jonyn swims down to the treasury door and opens it with the key, briefly flooding the room until they use the magic pearl to lower the water around the small island. The treasury contains several hundred gold and silver bars, a number of magic weapons, and several undamaged scrolls containing magic spells. While they are loading up the swan-boat, they are confronted by a hag and four trolls from the lake, who use magic to make themselves invisible until the battle is underway. The adventurers defeat and kill all five monsters before sailing back to Gokstad, where Cinder uses some of the spells on the scrolls to identify the evil spirit, try unsuccessfully to force it to leave, but then succeed in healing Miles of the illness and thus break the power of the curse. The adventurers stay for a few days, then return to Caermarthen and spend a fortnight making arrangements for Duke Henry Rayner, Lady Brenna's friend, to take custody of the swan-boat and have it delivered by land to Manderley Hall. They return to Manderley Hall, arriving at winter's end. Lady Brenna has been waiting for over a month to send them to Holluin and search the recently-identified barrow of the ancient Elleslander king Dhowim for his legendary enchanted sword, so they leave straightaway. Brenna's adventurers travel south through Wesland and across the Glaive to Penrhyn, where they pass a ship carrying the two strangers who pursued them to the Clyster docks in Autumn 1393 AUC. When they travel into Holluin's interior to the site of Dhowim's barrow, it has already been explored and looted by Lady Colombari and Mister Tarrin. While returning empty-handed to Penrhyn, they are approached in an inn one evening by two druids. The druids ask the elf-friends for help, as their forest is walking towards the village and they don't know how to stop it. Winter to Early Spring 1394 AUC | |

The Wayward Wood (modified version of AD&D adventure from Dungeon issue 32) |
|
Brenna's adventurers travel with the two druids into the walking forest the next day, eventually passing through to the far side, where they camp for the night. During the night they are attacked by a group of five trolls who appear to heal very quickly from injury, but manage to kill them all. Shortly afterwards, they are met by a group of three human hunters, who introduce themselves as Rhune, Tanree and Kinren. The hunters explain that their clan has been having great trouble dealing with the trolls, and agree to take the adventurers to meet Duncan, the clan's leader. The group travels back into the walking wood, where the hunters revert to their true forms as fey giants of the forest. The adventurers meet Duncan shortly before dawn, who explains that the trolls came down from the mountains, attacked and destroyed his clan's homestead, that they have been using fire to battle the trolls, and that Willowrose, the Lady of the Forest and a living tree, started moving the forest north so that the battles between the giants and the trolls wouldn't damage more trees. After resting through the day, Brenna's adventurers are led to the centre of the moving forest by Duncan and a small warband of giants, where they bargain with Willowrose and eventually persuade her to stop moving the forest towards the village and to help battle the trolls. In exchange, Willowrose tells the adventurers where the trolls are and sends some walking trees to help the group during the battle. The adventurers, giants and trees find the trolls at a homestead inside the forest that they have overrun and destroyed. The three warbands separate, each battling some of the trolls. The adventurers fight their way into the main hall, killing ten trolls plus their leader, who uses sorcery during the battle, and free Lena, the only survivor of the homestead. With the threat of the trolls overcome, the forest begins to walk back to where it began. The adventurers return to the port of Penrhyn, where Captain Karla Roodsdottir is waiting with a message from Lady Brenna to take the Galadiir and the cursed mirror from Tarleikos and negotiate with a potential buyer in one of the ports of Glendal. The Lost Mine part one |
| Brenna's adventurers travel with Captain Karla Roodsdottir to Dorbbene on the Aln Peninsula, one of the port cities on the western coast of Glendal where non-elves are permitted to live and trade. At Dorbbene, they meet with a part-elven trader named Kimon Talaptha and his business partner, an elven sorceress named Feantur. Kimon buys the Galadiir from Ulfgar for 20 pounds and, once Eadric has demonstrated its magic power, the cursed mirror from Lady Brenna for 200 pounds. That evening, while the adventurers and Karla are celebrating their safe journey and the successful sales at a tavern, some of the elves who guard the port take control of Karla's ship and confront the adventurers, as Kimon has died suddenly that evening, the Galadiir is missing, and they consider Ulfgar and his companions the most likely suspects. In the morning, Karla goes to complain to the harbour-master and the adventurers visit Feantur to learn more about the circumstances of Kimon's death. Feantur tells them that whatever killed Kimon took his breath away. After talking with Feantur, they go to a magic shop owned by a kattar named Sabarinah and consult with her about magics that may find the missing Galadiir. On her advice, they purchase a magic scroll for 15 pounds that contains a powerful spell capable of finding almost anything no matter where it is. Cinder uses the scroll to locate the Galadiir "in the hidden treasure-room of the lost dwarven mine of Tholgrim Whitebeard, on Serinde Mountain, 11 miles east on the coast". The adventurers tell Karla that they are going to leave the safety of the trading enclave and enter prohibited territory to reclaim the Galadiir, and she promises to have a ship waiting off the coast for them. They walk throughout the night, reaching Serinde mountain shortly before dawn. The adventurers find the entrance to the ancient mine, where they are attacked by a winged kattar with a powerful bow. They pursue the winged kattar into the mine, where they are attacked by an immense bat-winged horned giant armed with a trident. Although the adventurers manage to kill the winged katter, both Ulfgar and Marcus flee from the terrifying giant, and Jonyn is almost killed before the others flee from the giant. Fortunately, the giant is intimidated by the holy light shining forth from Marcus' sword, and doesn't immediately pursue them. Scattered throughout the mine and the rocks outside the entrance, Cinder is pursued by two child-like corpses, but manages to escape by running back into the mine. Spring 1394 AUC | |

The Lost Mine part two |
| Brenna's adventurers eventually regroup, and return to the chamber where they fought the winged kattar and the horned giant. They find the two child-like corpses waiting for them there, and the sounds of battle bring out the horned giant once again. Hurting the two corpses also hurts the mortals, and Jonyn weakens the adventurers badly by killing one of the two creatures. The giant sends several of the adventurers fleeing and almost kills Jonyn a second time, taking Jonyn's axe away with him. The adventurers leave the mines to recover. After an hour, they ward Eadric with magic to make him invisible so that he can explore more safely. Eadric finds the giant's lair and recovers Jonyn's axe, returning with it to tell the others what he found. They rest throughout the day and go a third time into the mines, all warded with and enhanced by magic. They fight the horned giant a third time and finally manage to kill it, though not before it sends Marcus fleeing further into the mines. Marcus returns shortly after the giant is killed, and warns the others that he saw glowing red eyes ahead of him. Everyone except Ulfgar stays alert, but Ulfgar starts picking up silver nuggets from the ground. He is confronted by a double of himself with glowing red eyes, and is initially paralysed with fear while it tries to steal his breath. The adventurers destroy the double, which dissipates into air with many sighs and moans. They explore the mines, eventually finding the hidden treasure-room and recovering the Galadiir. Ulfgar also finds a gold ring, which he unsuccessfully tries to hide from the others. Marcus throws it into a pool of water to test how much Ulfgar desires the ring, and Ulfgar does indeed swim to get the ring. Cinder confirms that it is a magic ring, but Ulfgar insists on keeping it. The adventurers use magic to fly out to Karla's new ship, The Faithful Lady, which she and her crew stole from Dorbenne. It is a kattar ship from the north, and Taliriana is delighted to discover that it has cannon. She teaches the crew how to use cannon on the journey back to Wesland. Brenna's adventurers return to Manderley Hall. Spring 1394 AUC |
