Numerous coins circulate throughout southern Selentia, some dating back to the heyday of the Selentine Empire. Although coins are minted throughout the various kingdoms, thanks to the economic influence of Teran they generally conform in size and worth no matter where they come from. The types of coins minted are:
There are 12 pennies to the shilling, 8 shillings (96 pennies) to the crown, and 20 shillings (240 pennies) to the pound. It is common practice to cut all four coins in half if needed, making the half-penny, six-penny (half a shilling), half-crown, and half-pound. The shilling is sometimes cut into quarters, making the three-penny. The quarter-penny is better known as the farthing.
Some older coins still circulate, though most have been melted down and recast as modern coins. The types of coins minted by the Selentine Empire included:
There were 4 old pennies to the old four-penny, 25 old four-pennies (100 old pennies) to the crown, and 5 crowns to the imperial. 25 old pennies equal 24 new pennies or 2 shillings, while 1 imperial equals 2 pounds. In addition, there were some Imperial and pre-Imperial bronze coins that are worth less than a new half-penny, and thus not detailed here.
