The Khanates
(Gunguska, Hunkunkai, Sinigalai, Sitai Oshkosa)

Heads of State: Khans and Great Khans.

Form of Government: tribal confederations.

State of the Nation in 1393 AUC: the Khanates of the West are currently dominated by four major confederations: the Gunguska, Hunkunkai, Sinigalai and Sitai Oshkosa Khanates. All are powerful, and raid their more civilised neighbours whenever it appears profitable.

Races: many Humans, many Centaurs.

Religion: Paganism, some Berian True Faith among the Gunguska and Sitai Oshkosa, some Tashim True Faith among the Sinigar and Sitai Oshkosa.

Description and History: The Khanates of the West drive great herds of cattle across the steppes and live in tents. The Khanates stretch across to the Mountains Under Heaven and the distant empire of Khitai, but it is much easier to trade with those lands by ship, sailing through the Deeps of Rasakna and around the peninsula of Minj to Batubatan.

The last great migrations of the Khanates occurred about one hundred and fifty years ago, forcing some Khanates to invade the kingdoms to their east. The Mogobai Khanate almost conquered Imperial Vestad, and some of the Kadikai Khanates did conquer Opalar, with one Khan establishing himself as the new Sultan. More recently, the Great Khans of the Sinigalai Khan have become related to the Sultans of Sinigar.
