Potestas: a D&D3E supplement

Chapter Five: Feats

Devout Belief [General]

You have a deep and abiding adherence to the True Faith, and have firmly rejected paganism and the arcane. Divine magic is more effective on you, and you can hold off arcane creatures through the power of your faith.

Prerequisite: None.

Benefit: All divine spells cast on you are treated as if the caster has +1 level and have +1 DC to resist. You can apply the Use Magic Device skill to divine magic items. You can also attempt to hold off arcane creatures, and if you succeed they cannot face you or approach within ten feet of you for as long as you continue to use a standard action to hold them off. You may make any number of attempts a day to hold off arcane creatures.

Special: Mystics and paladins automatically gain Devout Belief at 1st level. A mystic has a +1 modifier to their turning DC when attempting to hold off arcane creatures.

Restriction: Once you take this feat you cannot progress in levels as a bard or sorcerer without losing your faith.

Losing Faith: Characters with this feat can lose their faith. You can swap Devout Belief for another feat, but cannot take the Devout Belief feat a second time without atoning (see the atonement spell description). If you lose your faith, you cannot Turn Arcane. Mystics and paladins who lose their faith also lose all class abilities and spells and cannot progress in levels as a mystic or paladin until they atone and take the Devout Belief feat a second time.
